My name is Tracy, but you can call me Martha: The Awesome Dry Erase Board

I've seen quite a few dry erase boards around Blogland lately. Here are a couple cool ones:

We had a dry erase to-do list in our kitchen, but it was a little bit of an eye sore & pretty cheap looking:

I like it though because, as you can see, people enjoy writing on it when they come over. Upper right corner: (in dad's handwriting) "Dad Was Here" (in mom's handwriting) "& drank rum".

It lives on the wall directly across where I sit every day at our kitchen table and work on this blog, so I look at it probably more than anyone else. I got to thinking today that it would look cool with a black frame, since the curtain rods beside it are black. I was just about to bust out the spray paint when I remembered that we had about 12 black frames in the basement leftover from wedding decorations.

So, I made this:

I really wanted to do the "I love you because..." phrase but didn't think that was the most kitchen appropriate so I went with something I knew the Hubs and I (and all our guests) would have fun with. "Today is AWESOME because..." (Awesome is probably my husbands favorite word. Well, blog appropriate favorite word.)

All I did was take out the photo that was in the frame and put in a solid piece of white mat board. I used alphabet stickers I already had for the text and the glass of the frame works very well as a dry erase surface. I'm pretty awful at writing or stickering <new word alert> in a straight line so to make this text as semi-straight as I could I used a mechanical pencil (without the lead) and a ruler to score a base line for the stickers. No pencil line! Total cost: $0- now that's my kind of project!
